Your Star Spangled Heart Took A Train For The Coast
A while ago Amr and I got into a heated discussion about the state of politics today. I said something akin to the fact that I have become apathetic towards the political process because the rest of the United States is. I proclaimed how the elected officials were supposed to be OUR representatives, and if one person wanted change, and got enough people on their side, it should be able to cause change – but that people were so stupid being lead by their false idols and misguided ideas of morals and justice that it couldn’t happen anymore.
One song changed all of that.
I mean, listen to those lyrics. I swear to God, this should be our national anthem. It should be required listening for any American citizen. I came across it accidentally, I was in line to get gas at Costco and just had the whole album playing through while I was messing around on facebook when I heard the line, “your boys have gone soft, and your girls have gone wild” and I snickered. I mean, it was so true – way to go Brandon Flowers with the catchy lines.
But then I listened to the rest of the song. It’s a love song to America. It’s an anthem for us to get our asses off our chairs and remember what made this nation. We were battle born! Why are we sitting back now and letting a bunch of rich old men dictate what is best for us? Why are we letting the tea party be our voices? Why are we letting the democrats say they need to take our money when the lobbies make sure that corporations get nothing.
I mean, no taxation without representation, right? Where is our representation? Do you really think anyone in congress right now is representing your best interests?!
People, listen to the song. Let it permeate your consciousness, your entire being, and let’s do something.
Let’s remember that we were battle born, and even if the rich and powerful knock us down, and break our heart, and cause our soul to mourn… we have to get back on our feet, and take our government back.
