One of the questions that people most often ask me is how I handle bad reviews. I guess they think when you’re a blogger you get a lot of them. It’s always been an interesting question to me because up until today I hadn’t gotten a review on Abandon that was bad.
Well, now I know how to answer the question.
You know what I did? I made my bed. Really, I got up off my laptop, walked to my laundry room, took the sheets out of the dryer and made my bed. That is how I handled a bad review.
In all honestly, there are definitely points where that is the case. I think everyone is aware who reads this blog that I didn’t actually hire editors for Abandon and had my friends do it for free. A large part of that is because I didn’t want to invest money into it, until I knew it could make money. So they are right, there are definitely edits that need to be done.
In fact, I already had started the balls in motion to motion to fix those problems – and I’ve retained an editor (who I have a skype meeting with tomorrow – super nervous) and I’m planning to release the edited version of Abandon on Christmas.
The good news for all of you who already bought it though? If you send me an email with it in your e-reader or kindle, I will send you the copy of the mobi / epub for free. The story line isn’t going to change, but I’m definitely going to be fixing some wording, etc. Also, the sequel, Abandon, will be edited professionally as well before release so this won’t be a problem.
So there you go. That’s how you handle a bad review.
