Support Your Local Bands // The Getaway Car & JunkFood

This weekend was a weekend full of fun times.  (Again, for those who say I only do things with my boyfriend – the entire weekend was boyfriend free.)  Friday night, Mary, Allie and I hung out at my house and played Lego Batman and drank champagne.  You know, a chill night in that isn’t hard on the wallet.  Always a good time…

Mary left at 11AM on Saturday morning and I sat around the house and played Skyrim while I did laundry.  It was exhilarating   (Okay, for real, it was – because I totally beat Alduin and now I’m the hero of Skyrim.)

But Saturday night?  Saturday night was what I would call a legendary night, full of booze, friends, and a generally awesome time.  You see, there were two important bands playing at the 9:30 Club on Saturday night – JunkFood, who is my favorite local band, and the Get Away Car, who used to be my favorite local band before they broke up.  What’s more – we had a driver to the concert so we could drink as much as we wanted on the ride down.  Mary made us huge water bottles full of rum and coke to start the night:

I don’t know what’s going on with Mary’s face there….

And then when we got to the 9:30, I had to pop her and Jena’s 9:30 Club cherry by buying them a blue thing – which is in the basement.  (Seriously, I kept calling it the blue thing in the basement and they were laughing at me like it didn’t exist. Bet they are regretting that right now.)

It really is called The Blue Thing! Really!

We danced, we listened to awesome local bands.  Mary and I could be found at one point backstage in the green room:

In the green room, because we’re cool like that.

I bought four Getaway Car CD’s for myself, April, Mary and the boyfriend.  Mary bought a t-shirt for April, and when the concert was over, I was actually drunk enough that they somehow convinced me it was a good idea to go to Jimmy’s.   By this point, there are no pictures because I think all of us were far, far, far too drunk to make pictures happen.

I mean, really, the night was incredible – and when I woke up feeling like death (not even warmed over death, just death) my awesome roommate Katina was there to bring me two tylonal and a huge coke and ice.   I  spent most of the day in bed watching Law and Order reruns – but that’s okay.  Saturday was epic enough that it deserved a laid back Sunday.

So, in honor of providing me the awesome Saturday venue, check out the two following bands:

The Getaway Car (who will get back together… they will get back together…)

JunkFood (who is together, and you can always catch anywhere up and down the east coast)

Ahhh, we’ll miss you at the Friday Night Live shows. :)

But I’m happy you’re out in Denver because that means I have someone to visit.

I’m a Ska junkie. We have the Opskamatrists out in the SLC/E.ID area, but then again, I grew up where Reel Big Fish and Sublime were my ‘local’ bands…

WTF B, your local bands were Reel Big Fish and Sublime? Where can I sign up for that.
