Dear Mitt Romney – From a Former Mitt Romney Supporter

romney1

Dear Mitt Romney,

Lately there have been allegations by members of congress (Harry Reid, who is despicable in his own right) that you have not paid taxes in 10 years.   Apparently, he heard this from someone who heard it from someone, and that is enough to blurt out this fact in an interview, forcing the issue on your doorstep.  (Even though this wouldn’t be admissible in a court – the court of public opinion is typically based on heresy and lies.)  I’m pleading with you, begging even, for you to release your tax returns.  As a matter of fact, if you do, I will make a promise to campaign in your favor no matter what the results are.  While you’re at it, can you also release your expenditures for the past 10 years too?  For example, I want to release the sales tax on everything you have purchased, every meal you have eaten, every car you have bought, every flight you have been on, and every hotel you stayed at.  For every single gallon of gas you (or your family) has purchased – I want to know how much of the mass amounts of money you’ve spent to ensure your day to day living has gone to the state and federal government.  (If I had to garner a guess, you probably are taxed more than I make in a year on that.)

In addition, I would really like it if you stopped apologizing for being rich.  Don’t you realize, you achieved the American dream?  You should be proud of that – and you shouldn’t have to apologize for it!  Yes, you found every single loophole you could find to get away with paying fewer taxes – but when something like Turbo Tax is the number one software based on a guarentee you’ll get all the maximum deductions, and therefore paying less taxes – how can people hammer you for this?   Every single person in the United States looks for a way to pay less taxes – whether it’s by purchasing a house so that you can use that a write off, writing off your student loans, or donating to charity.  Please, stop apologizing for doing this on a much larger scale because you are able.   Be like Warren Buffett, lament about how low your tax rate is, and then still use every loophole and become the darling of the democrats!

Get back to talking about the issues – really talking about the issues.  You won Massachusetts for God’s sake.  You are a smart guy.  Quit pandering to all these different groups and start talking about ideas, and plans, and things that can improve this country.  You made that money because you are an intelligent and shrewd business man – you were well liked in Massachusetts because you were a moderate Republican who actually cared about the people, as well as the economy.   Own up to RomneyCare – explain what it’s faults were in Massachusetts, and why it won’t work on a national level.  (As a matter of fact, get that amazing hospital administrator I saw at Mason to speak on your behalf.)  Talk about your mistakes and how you will learn from them and apply them on a national level.

Is there any of the Mitt Romney I used to support in there?  Because now would be a good time to show your face – you already won the republican nomination.  They’re going to vote for you regardless, they hate Obama that much.  Please, please, please, win me back.

Love,

Stephanie

LOL, okay, funny – but for real, do you remember that episode of West Wing where Bruno (or maybe Leo) says something about how Bartlet needs to quit apologizing for actually being smart when he’s up against “Crime, boy, I don’t know.”

I kinda think that’s how Romney is now. Quit apologizing for getting ahead with your money – the American public is horrible with their money, you don’t need to stoop to their level to be their president – in fact – we wouldn’t want a president who managed finances like we manage ours.

Actually, I wish we HAVE government (Executive and Legislative branches) that DID manage their finances like a lot of people I know. I might not be getting ahead…but at least I am not getting behind either and I get s**t done…

Well – you are one of the few exceptions to the rule Terry. :)

Actually, that was Toby; I just rewatched the episode recently. “You’re not just folks. . .” On the other hand, Romney isn’t Bartlet and Obama isn’t Ritchie. I did a rant a few nights ago about Romney if you want more of my take :)
