Let me give you the quick and dirty of the House Series Finale. (If you want a larger recap, you should check out this link.)
House doesn’t want to go to jail – he comes up with three plans, the first three fail, so he fakes his own death to be able to spend the rest of Wilson’s days doing whatever they want to do.
I’m not going to get into the whole House / Wilson aspect because everyone knows it was a perfect ending for those two characters.
I want to talk about Chase.

Why you so sexy Chase? (In Season One)
When the show started, they say:
“I hired Chase because his dad made a phone call”
― House explaining to Cameron why he hired Chase in Pilot
Chase is considered someone who has a father who is responsible for him getting whatever he wanted in life – but as the show progressed, you see other quotes from House that show that Chase might be the one who is closest to House.
“Sometimes, I forget why I hired you”
― House, after Chase figures out House is the one who really sabotaged Foreman’s job interview in The Jerk“I wouldn’t have hired him if he wasn’t smart”
― House, after Chase outthinks him in No Reason
In the episode, Post Mortem, you start to see that Chase is the best doctor in Princeston Plainsboro besides House. In fact, when House is gone from the hospital on his trip with Wilson, Chase is the one who saves the day. And actually, it’s not the first time Chase has saved the day, he’s had the most lightbulb moments on the show of any of the ducklings. When he decides to leave the hospital, there is a touching scene between House and Chase – where Chase thanks him for everything he taught him, and House lets him go. It’s reminiscent to the 3rd season finale where House fires Chase, because he has been their the longest, and learned the most. House didn’t need to beg Chase to stay, he had run the department without House in his absence, figured everything out – and proved he could do it on his own. Chase was all grown up.
In all of the years of House being on the air, House was never a true mentor on the show to anyone but Chase. And not true a mentor, but House is actually a surrogate father to Chase through most of the series. For instance, look at the episode where Chase finds out his father died, and House doesn’t get involved until Chase asks him to. If it had been any of the other ducklings, House would have been pressing that issue and using it to his advantage, but with Chase, he gives him time to heal and adjust. Chase is also one of the only people in the show to receive a sincere apology from House – and House actually takes the blame for something bad that happens to Chase. (Where as House actually rarely takes the blame for his own actions. I mean really, that’s a huge step.)
That is why, out of all the emotional moments in the show – especially in the final hour, the one that had me sobbing the most was the fact that Chase was now the head of the diagnostics department at Princeston Plainsboro. It was so fitting, to have the son take that spot.
Well done House. Well done.
