The Post In Which I Get A Pie In The Face

One of my favorite things about the bar I visit is that for any sports game in which a staff member is rooting for a specific team, you are able to make a bet with them.  The bet is always the same – they will bet you a pie in the face that their team will win.  Well, EQ (who is the bartender / manager on duty / DJ extraordinaire) and someone I feel blessed to call of my best friends, is a Duke Blue Devils fan.  As a Maryland Terrapins fan through and through when it comes to college sports, we have a standing bet for when Duke plays Maryland on pies in the face.  Unfortunately, Maryland has lost like the last 4 times they met up and last night was no exception.  Therefore, you dear readers, get to watch a video where I get a pie in my face.

The rest of this post is a plea to the Maryland Terrapins. I can not take many more pies in the face before I become known as the pie in the face girl. I need you to win! You put a good effort last night, but you need to have the stamina to last the entire game! Stoglin, you are typically a 75% free throw shooter – if you had made all your shots last night, we’d be tied! I know, it’s hard to have the entire team resting on your shoulders and you’re only a sophomore, but no one should only make 2 out of 12 free throws. Yen, you are supposed to be our big man, the number of both offensive and defensive rebounds you miss is just astounding. Mosley, fouling out just can not happen in a game like this – you need to learn to be a better defender against the big guys, and you’re a senior! Get it together!

Things you did well as a team – you contained a very good 3 – point team, who lead the conference in 3-point percentage to just 3-for-16 from beyond the arc. That was excellent. In fact, I’m not sure there are many other teams out there who can say that they’ve had that effect on the Duke Blue Devils. You need to improve on that strength, and make those kind of stops inside the paint.

All and all, it was a great game, and I think that later in the season, when you goto Cameron Indoor Stadium, you have a real chance to win. Don’t let those Cameron Crazies fool you. Maryland has silenced them before, and can do it again! Fear the Turtle!

(PS: Mike Krzyzewski looked a little sad during the beginning of the game. I couldn’t help but think that he was disappointed it wasn’t Gary Williams he was facing. Their history together is long and storied, and their rivalry, as well as friendship, should be documented in the College Basketball Hall of Fame.)
