I’ve got tiger blood and Adonis DNA

So true, so so true.

Back in 2010 Forbes put out a list of the 100 Best Websites for Women.  Well, technically they promoted it as blogs for women, but lets be honest – the majority of them are not blogs.   I was reading through the list yesterday and I was kind of appalled at the sites that they think women want to see.  I’ll break it down for you – there were three major catageories:

  • Career related sites – for women who all they do is work
  • Career / Family related sites – for women who work and still raise a family
  • Family related site – for women who are only homemakers

The majority of the sites fell within those three categories - sure, there were a couple about handling your finances, and a couple that were actually true blogs.  For instance, one of my favorite bloggers The Bloggess was listed towards the end, all the way in the T’s.  (Also, Jane Has a Job was listed as well, and I love that blog – it says it’s career related but it’s really more general life geared.)   Anyways, I clicked on The Bloggess and decided to see what the people who comment on the bloggess are writing about.  I figure, she has comment luv installed, and it will tell me the last post by everyone who comments.

Mmm... delicious food, why are you so safe to write about? You know what we’re writing about ladies?

Food.

That’s right, almost every single post with the exception of this one somehow revolved around food.  It was either about your kids not eating food, or the newest recipe you tried out… one of them actually talked about an obsession with food – which apparently the every day person has.

Even I fall victim to this – look at my last couple posts.  It’s food, and shopping and how to save money.  Why am I not writing about anything interesting or personal!?  What kind of blog is this?!  The truth is, I think writing about food is safe, and if you’re not on the level of The Bloggess, you have to write safe.  What if an employer searches you… or god forbid a new love interest.

Well, after this post that is all changing.  I mean, I’ll still write about food, but I’m going to write about whatever is going on in my life, damn the consequences.  If an employer doesn’t want to look bad – maybe they shouldn’t treat me like crap.  If someone comes across my site and thinks I’m crazy for something that happened – maybe I’ll get a movie deal out of it.  Who knows.

But before I leave the safe, comforting topic of food – thank you Karen for the excellent recipe.  It turned out fabulous over rice, and I’m sure it’s going to become a staple of my cooking arsenal for when I’m lazy. :)

    Tear it up!
I get frustrated with the categories “they” list for blogs. Where’s the “blogs of ordinary people who are exceptionally witty”? or “married women who have no clue what they want to be when they grow up, but one of their goals is to remain childless”? or “women who just want to be fabulously rich and unemployed”?
Looking forward to your next blog posts! PICTURES or it didn’t happen!

You know, I’m frustrated too. I was part of the blogosphere back in 199 – 2003 and that’s ALL blogs were. Everyone was so interesting and so fun to read, and now it seems to be all money or mommy oriented and blah!!! So lame!

Wow. I hardly ever write about food…LOL Maybe that is why no one reads my blog!

I don’t think anyone would like it if I blogged about food: “So, to make Cheese Bread, which I had for dinner last night and lo-o-o-oved, take crappy French bread slices, put American cheese on top and microwave!” But, I’m so glad you posted this, because it’s true. Everyone talks recipes and family dinners, and I just really don’t care, you know? I can’t relate to any of that. Aren’t blogs about finding people you can relate to? Where did they all go?

I am totally looking forward to having an actual blog to follow! Good luck!

I might have been a little premature. Now I’m sitting here thinking of things to write and all I can come up with is kinect adventures.

I used to read a ton of blogs, but I bet there are only 3 or 4 that I check regularly now. Maybe because so many of the blogs were written by women, who eventually had babies and now want to talk about nothing but their kids. Mommy bloggers are the worst – they make me want to remove my own ovaries with a knife. I do not want to read one more story about an episiotomy, or how to make home-made baby food, or if it’s really necessary to put diapers on an infant. I wonder what happened to those cool, smart, funny women – did the babies suck all the cool, smart and funny out of them? (I ask this question at Christmas every year too, when I get tons of cards with pictures of nothing but the kid(s), and long letters about nothing but the kid(s), their favorite toy, their favorite teacher, etc – is there something about children that makes their parents invisible? But I digress…) The ones I read most often are simply people telling stories about their life – sometimes they talk about work, or their pets, or their relationships with their family or friends, or money, or a party they went to – just the kind of stuff I’d sit down and talk about with my friends.
